Today’s edition of Music Video Monday’s 80’s Countdown includes the popular song Walk this Way by Aerosmith and remixed by Run DMC.
Run DMC is easily the most influential rap and hip hop group of the 80’s. Their 1986 album Raising Hell easily being one of the most influential rap albums in history. Run DMC helped spur the careers of groups like Onyx, and 50 Cent, but also helped pave the way for other groups of their era such as the Beastie Boys and LL Cool J. They were named “Greatest Hip Hop Group of All Time” by MTV and “Greatest Hip Hop Artist of All Time” by VH1. They’re innovative styles and willingness to crossover the hip hop genre into rock led not only into the album that spurred a generation of rap and rap rock, best known from groups like The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Sublime, and Rage Against the Machine, but also made the world see that hip hop was the way of the future. They set off the flames that would ignite the tough image of the 90’s.
In the video you witness the two worlds of hip hop and rock colliding. This track and video was not only the symbol of the times but was also what solidified Run DMCs credibility in the rock genre as well as reignited the flame that is Aerosmiths career.
